CONDITIONS COMMONLY EVALUATED AND TREATED

Medical dermatology encompasses a broad range of conditions affecting the skin, hair, and nails. Patients are seen for new or undiagnosed concerns as well as established dermatologic conditions requiring ongoing evaluation or treatment.

Some of the concerns commonly evaluated and treated at IVSI include:

Acne and acne-related conditions, including inflammatory and cystic acne
Rosacea, facial redness, and flushing disorders
Eczema and dermatitis, including atopic, contact, and irritant dermatitis
Psoriasis and other inflammatory skin disorders
Chronic, recurrent, or unexplained rashes
Bacterial, fungal, and viral skin infections
Warts, molluscum, cold sores, shingles, and other viral skin conditions
Pigmentation disorders, including melasma and other changes in skin pigmentation
Vascular skin lesions
Melanocytic nevi (moles)
New, changing, symptomatic, or otherwise concerning skin lesions
Hair and nail disorders, including hair loss and abnormal nail changes
Skin cancer and precancerous skin changes

SKIN LESION & SKIN CANCER EVALUATION

Evaluation of new, changing, unusual, or symptomatic skin lesions begins with careful clinical examination. Depending on the findings, evaluation may include:

Focused or total-body skin examination
Digital dermoscopic examination, when appropriate
Shave, punch, or excisional biopsy when tissue diagnosis is needed

When a biopsy is performed, definitive diagnosis and further treatment recommendations are based on histopathologic findings.

WHEN AN OFFICE-BASED PROCEDURE IS NEEDED

Many dermatologic conditions are managed medically and do not require a procedure. Others may require biopsy, removal, drainage, destruction, or another office-based procedure as part of diagnosis or treatment.

When a procedure is needed, the method is selected according to the diagnosis, lesion characteristics, location, and expected healing.

SKIN CHANGES RELATED TO VENOUS DISEASE

Some lower-extremity skin changes are associated with chronic venous insufficiency rather than a primary dermatologic condition. These can include persistent lower-leg discoloration, inflammation, swelling, stasis-related skin changes, and venous ulceration.

IVSI also provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency, including physician-performed venous ultrasound when indicated.
