VARICOSE VEIN TREATMENT OPTIONS
Jozef Tryzno, MD, RVT, DABVLM, Park Ridge, Illinois
Physician-Performed • Medically Indicated • Ultrasound-Guided • Minimally Invasive
If you’ve been told you may need varicose vein treatment, a proper evaluation matters. At International Vein & Skin Institute (IVSI), treatment decisions are based on symptoms, physical examination, and venous ultrasound findings — not one-size-fits-all protocols.
All evaluations and procedures are personally performed by Dr. Jozef Tryzno, MD, RVT, DABVLM, with more than 25 years of focused experience in the diagnosis and treatment of venous disease.

Why patients choose IVSI
- Physician-performed care from evaluation through treatment
- Modern, minimally invasive vein procedures
- No hospital stay or general anesthesia
- Treatment recommended only when medically appropriate
TREATMENT FOLLOWS DIAGNOSIS
Varicose veins are most commonly caused by chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) — a condition in which vein valves fail and blood flows backward in the legs. Because this process occurs beneath the skin, accurate diagnosis is essential before treatment.
Treatment is recommended only when medically appropriate and is often performed in stages, addressing the underlying source of venous reflux rather than focusing only on visible veins.
ENDOVENOUS LASER ABLATION (EVLA)
Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA) is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat incompetent saphenous veins, a common source of venous reflux and varicose vein formation.
Under ultrasound guidance, a thin laser fiber is placed inside the affected vein. Controlled laser energy is delivered to seal the vein closed, allowing blood flow to reroute through healthier veins.
EVLA is commonly used to:
- Treat the underlying cause of varicose veins
- Reduce symptoms such as leg pain, heaviness, and swelling
- Help prevent progression and recurrence
The procedure is performed in-office, does not require general anesthesia, and does not involve a hospital stay.
ULTRASOUND-GUIDED SCLEROTHERAPY
Ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy involves injecting a medical solution into refluxing or abnormal veins identified beneath the skin using ultrasound guidance. The treated veins gradually collapse and are absorbed by the body over time.
This approach is often used for:
- Veins not suitable for EVLA
- Residual or recurrent refluxing veins
- Deeper varicosities not visible at the surface
Sclerotherapy is frequently used in combination with EVLA as part of a comprehensive, staged treatment plan.
COMPRESSION SCLEROTHERAPY FOR SPIDER & RETICULAR VEINS
Compression sclerotherapy is commonly used to treat spider veins and reticular (blue) veins on the legs. A medical solution is injected into small surface veins, followed by compression to support vein closure and gradual fading.
This treatment is typically considered when spider or reticular veins are isolated cosmetic findings. When underlying venous insufficiency is present, treatment is often staged to address the deeper condition first.
WHY PHYSICIAN EXPERIENCE MATTERS
Ultrasound-guided procedures such as EVLA and ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy are technically demanding. Accurate vein access, precise delivery of laser energy or sclerosant, and real-time interpretation of ultrasound imaging require advanced training and hands-on experience.
The safety and effectiveness of these procedures depend heavily on the skill and judgment of the physician performing them.
At International Vein & Skin Institute:
- All venous ultrasound evaluations and ultrasound-guided procedures are personally performed by Dr. Jozef Tryzno, MD, RVT, DABVLM
- Dr. Tryzno has more than 25 years of focused experience treating chronic venous insufficiency and varicose vein disease
- Treatment planning, procedural care, and follow-up are fully physician-led, ensuring continuity of care and careful attention to safety
INSURANCE & TREATMENT PLANNING
Many varicose vein treatments are considered medically necessary when symptoms and ultrasound findings meet clinical criteria and may be covered by insurance.
Coverage, staging, and treatment recommendations are reviewed during your evaluation so expectations are clear before proceeding. Self-pay options are available for patients without insurance coverage or with high deductibles.
SCHEDULE YOUR EVALUATION
