FACIAL MOLE REMOVAL IN PARK RIDGE, IL

Evaluation and Removal of Moles and Skin Growths on the Face

Facial moles and skin growths are common and may appear as raised, pigmented, or flesh-colored lesions on the face. Many remain stable for years, while others may slowly enlarge, become irritated, or change in appearance and require medical evaluation.

Some patients seek removal of facial moles, eyelid growths, or other benign skin lesions that become bothersome, catch during shaving or grooming, or create cosmetic concerns.

At International Vein & Skin Institute, facial mole evaluation and removal procedures are personally performed by Dr. Jozef Tryzno, MD, a physician with more than 25 years of clinical experience in dermatologic surgery and laser-assisted skin procedures.

✔ Physician-performed facial lesion evaluation and removal
✔ Diagnostic biopsy when indicated
✔ Surgical and laser-assisted removal techniques

TYPES OF FACIAL GROWTHS COMMONLY REMOVED

Patients often seek evaluation for bumps, moles, or growths on the face without knowing exactly what type of lesion it is.

Common facial lesions evaluated and treated include:

• Raised or pigmented moles (melanocytic nevi)
• Flesh-colored moles (intradermal nevi)
• Small bumps or lumps on the face
• Skin tags (fibroepithelial polyps)
• Eyelid skin tags and benign eyelid growths
• Seborrheic keratoses
• Cherry angiomas and other vascular lesions
• Sebaceous hyperplasia
• Flat warts (verruca plana)
• Milia and other superficial cysts

Some lesions are removed for medical reasons, while others for comfort or cosmetic considerations.

A clinical examination determines whether a lesion should be observed, biopsied, or removed.

FACIAL MOLE REMOVAL METHODS

CO₂ Laser–Assisted Shave Removal

Laser-assisted shave removal combines tangential excision of the raised portion of the lesion with controlled laser destruction of remaining superficial tissue.

This technique removes the lesion at the dermal level without placement of deep sutures and allows the area to heal naturally by secondary intention.

It is commonly used for selected facial moles and benign growths, particularly in high-movement areas of the face, where this approach may provide improved cosmetic blending with surrounding skin.

Because some moles—especially intradermal nevi—extend deeper within the skin, residual nevus cells may remain, and partial regrowth can occur in some lesions.

Treatment selection and expected outcomes are reviewed during the clinical evaluation.

CO₂ Laser Destruction / Evaporation

Laser evaporation is commonly used for small superficial benign lesions.

• Precise, controlled tissue removal
• Minimal bleeding during treatment
• Short recovery period

Temporary redness is expected during early healing. Because treated skin initially differs in color from surrounding untreated skin, the area may appear pink or slightly lighter for a short period.

When multiple lesions are removed, the skin may appear temporarily “spotted,” reflecting the normal healing process. As healing progresses, skin tone gradually blends with surrounding skin.

Treatment of Vascular Facial Lesions

Some facial lesions contain abnormal blood vessels.

Targeted vascular laser treatment may be used for lesions such as:

• Cherry angiomas
• Pyogenic granulomas
• Selected vascular facial growths

These lasers selectively target abnormal blood vessels while minimizing effects on surrounding skin.

Surgical Excision

Surgical excision removes the entire depth of a lesion and is generally reserved for larger facial moles, deeper nevi, or lesions requiring diagnostic confirmation.

• Provides complete lesion removal
• Allows histopathologic examination when required
• Results in a linear scar that typically softens over time

When appropriate, incision placement is planned along natural skin lines to help minimize scar visibility.

COSMETIC CONSIDERATIONS FOR FACIAL MOLE REMOVAL

When removing moles or other skin growths from the face, cosmetic outcome is an important consideration.

Several factors influence the final appearance of the treated area, including:

• Lesion size and depth
• Location on the face
• Skin type and healing characteristics
• Natural skin lines and wrinkle patterns
• Sun exposure and surrounding skin texture

Many facial moles, particularly intradermal nevi, extend deeper within the skin. Treatment methods are therefore selected carefully to balance complete removal, cosmetic blending, and scar visibility.

In some cases, techniques that allow the skin to heal naturally without sutures may provide a more favorable cosmetic appearance in certain facial areas.

IMPORTANCE OF ACCURATE DIAGNOSIS

Not all facial moles or skin growths require removal. During evaluation, each lesion is examined to determine whether:

• the lesion appears benign
• diagnostic biopsy may be appropriate
• removal can be performed safely
• cosmetic considerations should influence treatment selection

When removal is appropriate, the procedure is performed personally by the physician, with technique selection based on lesion type and location.

HEALING AND COSMETIC EXPECTATIONS

Any skin procedure heals through scar formation, although scars often soften and blend with surrounding skin over time.

Healing varies depending on:

• Skin type and age
• Lesion size and depth
• Facial location
• Individual healing response

Some patients may benefit from staged treatment or laser resurfacing procedures to improve overall cosmetic results after healing.

SCHEDULE A FACIAL MOLE EVALUATION

If you have a changing mole, flesh-colored bump, eyelid growth, or other facial skin lesion, an examination can determine whether monitoring, biopsy, or removal is appropriate.
