Malignant Skin Neoplasm

What's Wrong With Self- exam? There is nothing is wrong with self- exam, but self-diagnosis and denial is a very dangerous behavior.

The most important fact: majority of patients, that were eventually diagnosed with advanced stages of malignant melanoma new about presence of the skin lesion long time before diagnosis was made.

A-B-C-D is what you need to look for:

Asymmetry—The shape of one half does not match the other.
Border—The edges are often ragged, notched, blurred, or irregular in outline; the pigment may spread into the surrounding skin.

Color—The color is uneven. Shades of black, brown, and tan may be present. Areas of white, grey, red, pink, or blue also may be seen.

Diameter—There is a change in size, usually an increase. Melanomas are usually larger than the eraser of a pencil (1/4 inch or 6 millimeters).

If you find any of the A-B-C-D changes listed above or, if you have a question or concern about mole or dark spot on your skin, schedule appointment for skin exam with your medical provider.
